Latino Nursing Opportunity Program

The purpose of this project is to develop an educational enrichment program that will prepare primarily Hispanic and Latino students to enter and successfully complete a baccalaureate degree nursing program.

Through the three distinct components:

  • a pre-entry nursing program for 7-12th grade students offering activities in academic enrichment, college and career socialization, and clinical/practicum experience;
  • a faculty development to update cultural competencies, and enhance skills in mentoring, advising, and teaching students from disadvantaged backgrounds underrepresented in nursing;
  • a retention component in the Catholic University of America School of Nursing (CUA SON) to address the academic, social support, and financial needs of Latino nursing students.
