National Expert on  the Responsible Conduct of Research:  The dean was one of  between 12 to 15 national health care experts invited to serve on a consensus-building panel to address the proper educational objectives associated with the responsible conduction of research. The findings will be presented to the Office of Research Integrity, Department of Health and Human Services.

Nursing Spokesperson, Health Careers Exploring.  Health Careers Exploring is a national program developed to help high school students learn about careers in health care. Dr. Jairath is a nursing spokesperson for this program. In  2005, I presented at one of their sponsored learning academies.  In May, 2006, she was interviewed regarding the profession of nursing and nursing careers. In August, 2006 Dr. Jairath was featured in a short DVD promoting the program. The remaining videotaped material from the interview is scheduled for production of educational materials regarding a career in nursing in 2007.   She is also scheduled to participate in live events as necessary.

Testimony to Congressional Staffers. Dr. Jairath was a featured speaker at a June 5, 2006 briefing at the Rayburn Building, Washington DC for congressional staffers regarding the impact of Title VII and Title VIII funding changes upon workplace development programs targeting nursing personnel caring for vulnerable populations. Approximately 50 staffers attended. Other featured speakers focused upon the impact of these changes upon the health professions in general. The briefing was organized by the Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition in conjunction with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Consultation. In January 2006, I was a member of a three person team of consultants to the Acting Provost, University of Maine. We analyzed the ways in which the Department of Nursing and its existing nursing programs articulated with the University. Recommendations regarding structural issues and strategic planning to align the Department with its parent school and with the University were made.
