Introduction

Dr. Elizabeth Hawkins-Walsh has been a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program since 1989. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at The Catholic University of America was one of the first in the country.

Dr. Hawkins-Walsh has worked with colleagues in recent years to expand the program with the assistance of federal funds to include a stronger emphasis on adolescents, school-based health care and child behavioral health. She has collaborated further to strengthen the program through the establishment of faculty practice sites where faculty and students work and learn together in providing interdisciplinary primary health care to uninsured children and families in DC and at two elementary school-based health clinics in Maryland.

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program was named as one of the Top Ten PNP Programs in the country in the latest US News and World Report.
